Bill: HB 1715 — 2017
Addressing meal and rest breaks and mandatory overtime for certain health care employees (Riccelli, Gregerson, McBride)
Addresses meals and rest periods for licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, surgical technologists, diagnostic radiologic technologists, cardiovascular invasive specialists, respiratory care practitioners, and certified nursing assistants. Prohibits an employer from: (1) Using prescheduled on-call time to fill chronic or foreseeable staff shortages; and (2) Scheduling nonemergency procedures that would require overtime.
SENATE COMMITTEE (Ways & Means) AMENDMENTS
(1) Provides that meal and rest period requirements do not apply to employees who are covered by a collective bargaining agreement that is: (a) In effect on the effective date of this section through the date of termination of that agreement; or (b) Is entered into after the effective date of this section, so long as the agreement specifically addresses meal and rest periods.
