Concerning stem cell therapies not approved by the United States food and drug administration (Cody)
AN ACT Relating to stem cell therapies not approved by the United States food and drug administration; amending RCW 18.130.180; and adding a new section to chapter 18.130 RCW.
SUMMARY OF 1ST SUBSTITUTE COMPARED TO ORIGINAL BILL
(1) Requires licensed healthcare providers who perform therapies using human cells, tissues, or cellular or tissue-based products that have not been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide notification that the therapy has not been approved by the FDA.
EFFECT OF HOUSE FLOOR AMENDMENT
(1) Requires a license holder that performs a therapy using human cells, tissues, or cellular or tissue-based products that has not been approved by the United States food and drug administration to obtain the patient's written informed consent before performing the therapy. (2) Clarifies an exception pertaining to institutions to apply to license holders performing therapies pursuant to a contract with such an institution.
